Such tragic news out of Orlando, Florida this morning. Christina Grimmie, a former finalist on NBC’s The Voice, was shot and killed at a concert venue Saturday night. Sources say Christina was signing autographs after her show at about 10:45 PM at the Plaza Live venue, when the gunman walked right up to her and shot her. Her brother then tackled the gunman, and the gunman shot and killed himself. The suspect was reportedly armed with two guns.
Christina was taken to the hospital and later died from her injuries. She was 22 years old.
Christina’s publicist released a statement at 2:45 AM:
“It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord. She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn’t survive the gun shot wounds. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning. If you’d like to give back to Christina’s family in her memory, please consider donating to the families GoFundMe page in their time of need.”
Christina and her brother performed earlier in the night with their band in front of a crowd of about 60 people. Another band, Before You Exit, had also performed.
Adam Levine posted a heartfelt message on his Instagram after finding out Christina had been shot:
So far, police have not named the gunman or the motive. They have said they will provide an update later this morning.
