Vivian Vosburg, the step-mother of the 14-year-old suspect in the Rebecca Sedwick cyberbullying case has been arrested. She is being charged with two counts of child abuse and four counts of child neglect.
In a press conference yesterday, Polk County Sheriff Grady Judd said that the 14-year-old’s sister had posted a video on her Facebook of their step-mother hitting and beating two boys at their home. You can watch the press conference below, which includes the beating video and more details about the arrest.
It’s pretty crazy that this woman would now be arrested, after going on CNN and other news programs all week, defending her step-daughter. In this clip from ABC, Vivian tells the reporter that she would check the 14-year-old’s Facebook every night and that it was hacked.
As Sheriff Judd pointed out, if Vivian was indeed checking her step-daughter’s Facebook every night, how could she miss the video that was posted on the sister’s account?
I’ll post updates about Vivian’s case below. It will be interesting to see how this will play out and if she’ll serve any jail time.
UPDATE: 2/4/14 8:41 AM
Vivian has pleaded guilty to the abuse charges and has been sentenced to five years probation. She also must complete a 26-week anger management and parenting class.
