Shelia Eddy in court

In a move the finally puts this tragic murder case to rest, 18-year-old Shelia Eddy pleaded guilty to killing her best friend Skylar Neese in July 2012. Shelia and another friend, Rachel Shoaf, had lured Skylar out of her home in the middle of the night, and proceeded to stab her to death and then dump her body on the side of the road. You can read more details about the case HERE.

Rachel pleaded guilty in May 2013, and was scheduled to testify against Shelia in her murder trial this week. On Friday, at a pre-trial hearing, Shelia changed her plea to guilty of first degree murder with mercy. She now faces life in prison, but will be eligible for parole after only 15 years.

At the hearing, Shelia admitted killing Skylar, but didn’t offer any explanation. The only possible motive for the murder came from Rachel’s mouth when she confessed last year, allegedly telling police that she and Shelia simply didn’t want to be friends with Skylar anymore.

The Prosecutor held a brief press conference after the hearing:

I’m glad that Skylar’s family will be spared of having to sit through a trial, but the possibility of Shelia getting out of prison after only 15 years doesn’t seem fair at all. This was a premeditated murder, in which these girls actually brought shovels with them the night they picked up Skylar. They planned to stab her to death and bury her, and afterwards, they showed zero remorse.

In fact, Shelia didn’t even bother to stand up in court and apologize to Skylar’s family herself. Instead, she chose to remain silent like the coward she clearly is.

Rest in peace, Skylar.
