Surprise, surprise. Kidnapping suspect Randy Taylor is telling his attorney that police arrested the wrong guy for the abduction of 17-year-old Alexis Murphy. Mike Hallahan, an attorney from Charlottesville who’s representing Taylor, told reporters that his client is claiming that although he did hang out with Alexis on the night she went missing, he isn’t the last one who saw her alive.
Hallahan held a press conference today, and what a story he told. According to his client, Taylor saw Alexis at the Liberty Gas Station in Lovingston the night of August 3, and they started talking about marijuana, as they had supposedly done in the past. Taylor then accompanied Alexis to another location where they met up with a black drug dealer in his mid- to late- 20s, who was sporting cornrows and driving an old burgundy Chevrolet Caprice. The three then went to Taylor’s home, Taylor purchased marijuana from the drug dealer, and then Alexis and the drug dealer left.
And poor Randy Taylor was in the wrong place at the wrong time again. His story might actually be laughable if the whole situation wasn’t so tragic.
His latest tale has some amazing parallels to the story he told investigators when they were questioning him about the Samantha Clarke case, which you can read about HERE. In that case, he pinpointed a mystery couple who was looking to harm Samantha for interfering with their relationship.
Hallahan says he is planning on asking for bond next week at Taylor’s hearing. Call me crazy, but I don’t think he’s going to get it.
Meanwhile, Alexis Murphy is still missing. Her family is doing a great job appearing in the media and doing their best to get the word out. Someone had to have seen something. If you have any info about Alexis Murphy, please call the Nelson County Sheriff’s Office at 434-263-7050.
UPDATE: 9/10 3:53 PM
Police have found Alexis’ cell phone, although they will not say when or where they found it.
