46-year-old Rodney Earl Sanders has reportedly confessed to the murders of Sister Margaret Held, 68, and Sister Paula Merrill, 68, after being arrested late Friday night. Held and Merrill were found Thursday in their home in Durant, Mississippi, stabbed to death in what the coroner called “one of the worst” crime scenes he had ever seen.

Sanders’ motive for the murders has not been released, although investigators did find the nuns’ car missing from their driveway about a mile from the house, pointing to a possible robbery.

Held and Merrill were nurse practitioners working at a local clinic in the impoverished community of Holmes County.
