Ayla Reynolds

***Scroll down for updates***

As the two year anniversary of the disappearance of 20-month-old Ayla Reynolds draws near, Ayla’s mother has decided to release new info about the investigation. Ayla was last seen at her father’s home in Waterville, Maine on December 16, 2011. You can read my first post about Ayla’s disappearance HERE.

Ayla’s mother, Trista Reynolds, is now coming forward in the hopes of reigniting the investigation into what happened to her daughter. Trista spoke with CNN and told them that police met with her in January 2012 and showed her pictures of blood found at Ayla’s father’s home, where she had been staying the night she went missing.

“What I thought right off my head was it was a murder scene,” Trista said.

Trista told CNN that there were so many photos of blood shown to her, that she had to stop looking. Among the photos were:

  • Blood found on Ayla’s slippers as well as a doll in her bedroom
  • A silver dollar sized bloodstain on a couch in the living room
  • Blood on the walls and the floor in the basement, where Ayla’s father, Justin DiPietro allegedly would sleep
  • A “fist-sized stain” on the mattress and sheets in the basement
  • Blood on the tongue of Justin’s gym shoes
  • Blood on a wooden pallet leaning against a wall
  • A spot of blood found on a child’s carseat in Justin’s car

In addition to those photos, in which the blood was visible, Trista says she was also shown photos where luminol was used, highlighting blood that may have been cleaned up and not visible to the naked eye.

Police had told the media in January 2012 that they had found blood in the basement, but it was never disclosed how much blood was found.

Trista said she wanted to come forward to the public about the previously unreleased info because she felt it was time “to let the world know” about it.

Justin and his family maintain his innocence and say the toddler was abducted.

So what could this info release mean for the investigation? Police have undoubtedly had this info to go on for the last couple years, yet there still hasn’t been an arrest. It’s always more difficult to prove a murder occurred without having found a body, but it has definitely been done numerous times.

If what Trista is saying about the blood is true, I hope investigators make some arrests soon, and leave it up to the jury to decide.

UPDATE: 10/23/13 10 AM

Police confirmed that there is a big search going on today in a wooded area in Oakland. There will be a 3 PM press conference to update on the search for Ayla.

UPDATE: 2/4/14 10:01 AM

The last update in this case didn’t seem to move the case along, as far as arrests are concerned, and I don’t think this newest release of info is much different.

Police released the transcripts of the 911 call that Justin made when he reported Ayla missing. You can read the transcripts HERE.

There’s nothing damning in them, and there aren’t any clues (at least that I could see) as to where Ayla could possibly be. It’s likely that police are just trying to get this case back in the public eye so they can get more tips in.

Hopefully an arrest is imminent.

UPDATE: 5/25/16 1:05 PM

Ayla’s family has set up a gofundme account to help them hire a lawyer so they can file a civil lawsuit against Justin DiPietro and the other family members who were with Ayla the night she disappeared.
