A husband and wife have been arrested in the case of a missing 20-year-old from Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Heather Elvis was last seen the night of December 18, 2013, after arriving home from a date. You can read my prior post about Heather’s disappearance HERE.
38-year-old Sidney Moorer and his wife, 41-year-old Tammy Caison Moorer, were taken into custody this morning after police executed a search warrant on their home. Police said they won’t release any info about the charges they are facing until tomorrow.
In the meantime, as of this posting, police officers are still at the Moorer residence. Reporters on the scene have said that they are searching vehicles on the property, digging in the backyard, and that K-9 dogs are present.
According to a press release from the Horry County Police Department, “The warrant was served around 7 a.m. Friday as an attempt to identify potential evidence based on new information obtained through expert analysis of previously seized surveillance tapes and financial discrepancies filed with the State of South Carolina on behalf of the people living in the home.”
A lot of rumors have been swirling around for the last couple months, and I’ve been hesitant to post about them, because they were just that – rumors. Now, it appears as though some of those rumors are, in fact, true.
Back in January, Heather’s brother posted the below message on the Find Heather Elvis Facebook page:
“I’m tired of biting my tongue and holding back. It’s been a month and I don’t have answers. Information is leaking so I feel like I may as well get this out now. The last to have contact with my sister on her phone was Sidney St. Clair Moorer, his wife is Tammy Caison Moorer. After Heather returned home from her date on the last night she was seen she spoke with Sidney who lied about it. Heather told her roommate that Sidney said he was leaving his wife and wanted to be with Heather. She received a call from a gas station pay phone and her phone last pinged at Peachtree Landing. Tammy and Heather had a physical confrontation which I was informed of from local LE in which Tammy punched my sister in the weeks before Heather’s disappearance. I believe these people know something at the very least if they are not directly involved in my sister’s disappearance…”
After that was posted, Tammy Moorer posted this on her Facebook page, claiming that Heather’s family was harassing her:
Terry Elvis, Heather’s father, spoke with WISTV earlier this month and confirmed that there were several calls back and forth between Heather and Sidney the night of Heather’s disappearance, as late as 6 AM.
Sidney reportedly told police that Heather had called him that night and that he had told her to stop calling him.
Just yesterday, Tammy posted this on her Facebook account:
I’ll update this post when the charges against Sidney and Tammy are announced. And in the meantime, hopefully Heather will be found.
UPDATE: 2/22/14 11:29 AM
Both Tammy and Sidney have been charged with two counts of indecent exposure and one count of obstructing justice. No word yet on what the charges are stemming from, or how they are related to Heather’s disappearance.
According to the Horry County Police Department, additional charges are pending on both Tammy and Sidney.
UPDATE: 2/24/14 7:46 AM
On Sunday, Tammy and Sidney were charged with kidnapping, in relation to Heather’s disappearance. More info will be released at a bond hearing this morning, scheduled for 10 AM EST.
As for the indecent exposure charges, according to the arrest warrants, both Tammy and Sidney “indecently exposed” themselves between December 17th and December 18th at 1325 Celebrity Circle, and at Atlantic Avenue and Century Circle in Conway.
Heather worked at Tilted Kilt, which is located at 1317 Celebrity Circle. Were they taunting Heather at her workplace?
UPDATE: 2/24/14 9:00 AM
For those who want to watch the press conference, you can watch below:
According to the Horry County Police Chief, both Tammy and Sidney will be charged with the murder of Heather Elvis today.
Police located additional evidence during their search of the Moorers’ home as well as on the property that led to the murder charges.
When asked if the Moorers are cooperating with police, the chief said that both have attorneys and that they are communicating with the Moorers’ attorneys.
They are still searching for Heather’s body.
What a sad day for the Elvis family – my thoughts and prayers are with them.
I’ll post any new updates below.
UPDATE: 2/24/14 12:55 PM
According to the arrest warrants that were released this afternoon, the kidnapping and murder took place at Peachtree Boat Landing in Socastee.
The warrants state that Tammy and Sidney “did unlawfully seize, confine, kidnap, abduct or carry away Heather Elvis by any means whatsoever without the authority of the law” and that they “did unlawfully, without just or sufficient cause, murder Heather Elvis with malice forethought.”
The “malice forethought” wording makes me think the murder charges will be premeditated murder in the first degree.
