The jurors in the Martin MacNeill trial deliberated for about 11 hours, well into the night, before reaching their verdict – Guilty of the first degree murder of his wife, and guilty of obstruction of justice.
The MacNeill daughters, along with Michele’s family, can be seen sobbing as the verdict is read.
The jury requested to hear the 911 call MacNeill made, right before delivering their verdict.
Proving these charges certainly wasn’t easy for the State. With a purely circumstantial case, not only did they have to prove that MacNeill murdered his wife, they also had to prove that it was a murder at all. Job well done to the prosecutors.
Six years after Michele’s death, justice has finally been served.
Alexis Somers (MacNeill) was interviewed as she was leaving the courthouse. “We’re just happy he can’t hurt anyone else,” she told reporters.
Sentencing has been scheduled for January 7, 2014 at 1 PM.
