Kids nowadays can be really scary. Two teenagers from Ocala, Florida, have been charged with conspiracy to commit murder and attempted murder in the second degree.
15-year-old Pedro H. Solis and his girlfriend, 13-year-old Yaquelin Galvez Don, were taken into custody Sunday after attempting to kill Don’s parents. According to police, Don snuck Solis into her family’s garage shortly before 5 AM, and handed him a kitchen knife. She then lured her mother into the garage by waking her up and telling her that she heard noises. When they got into the garage, Solis jumped out and slit her mother’s throat with a knife.
He then ran inside the house and held a knife up to her father’s throat. He was finally persuaded to take Don’s mother to the hospital, after both parents promised that they would no longer interfere with the couple’s relationship.
Solis dropped the mother off at the emergency room, and both he and Don were arrested hours later.
Don’s mother survived, after having life-saving surgery.
Solis eventually confessed, telling police they had planned to kill Don’s parents, so they could be together. The plot was put into motion after the couple detailed their plan on the phone and over Facebook.
The teenage couple appeared in court together Monday, where the judge refused to grant bond. They will remain in jail, and are scheduled to be arraigned on March 18, 2014.
UPDATE: 3/19/14 8:24 AM
At the arraignment hearing on Tuesday, the judge ruled that although Pedro Solis is 15 years old, he will be charged as an adult in this case.
The judge granted the prosecution’s request for more time regarding Don’s charges. She will be arraigned again on April 1, 2014. If prosecutors decide to charge her as an adult as well, they will need to present the case to a grand jury.
