15-year-old Danielle Locklear (known as “Dannie” to friends and family) has been missing from Hope Mills, North Carolina, for almost two weeks now, and her family is desperate to find her.
Dannie was reported missing on March 11, 2014, by her grandfather, who told police that she had left his home to go to a friend’s house, but when he went to go pick her up, her friend said she had never made it there. Her grandfather lives on Trencholm Lane in the Fox Meadow/Brook Ridge subdivisions.
Dannie has not been heard from since leaving her grandfather’s house, and her cell phone is off.
Police officers have searched Little Rockfish Creek, which is known as a local hangout for teenagers in the area. The Fayette Observer is reporting that Dannie’s clothes were found along the banks of the creek.
Dannie’s mother told reporters that she had never run away before, and that this is very unlike her.
Hope Mills Police Chief Joel Acciardo held a press conference last week and said they are taking this case very seriously based on the initial investigation and the length of time she has been missing.
Acciardo also said they received info that suggests that Dannie may have been in the area of Lazy Acres RV Park, which is near the Fayetteville Regional Airport, later the same evening she disappeared.
The State Bureau of Investigation and the FBI is assisting with the investigation.
A Find Dannie Facebook Page has been set up to update people on the case, as well as on the search efforts. Please Like the page and share the info to help get the word out.
If you’re in the area, Camping World of Fayetteville will be hosting a balloon release and community gathering on March 29 to bring public awareness to Dannie’s disappearance. It will take place at 6 PM at 5117 U.S. Hwy 301 South in Hope Mills.
Dannie is biracial with black hair and blue eyes. She is 5’1 and weighs approximately 130 pounds. If you have any information, please contact Detective Hardin with the Hope Mills Police Department at (910) 425-4103 or call CrimeStoppers at (910) 483-TIPS (8477).
UPDATE: 4/4/14 9:45 AM
A female body has been found in the South River, and WRAL is reporting that investigators believe it is Dannie.
The body has been sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office for a positive identification, and Hope Mills police have spoken to Locklear’s family. It could be 2-3 days before police receive a positive identification, Hope Mills Police Chief Joel Acciardo said.
The Find Dannie Facebook Page posted the below message, regarding the discovery:
Thank you to everyone for your positive thoughts & prayers. We are aware of the reports coming out in the media – and understand that everyone is concerned and wanting information – at this time there has not been a positive ID made on the body found in the river. Please keep sending thoughts of comfort to Dannie’s family and friends as they all wait for answers.
