The 54-year-old Dearborn Heights man who shot and killed 19-year-old Renisha McBride on November 2 has officially been charged in her death. In a press conference earlier this morning, Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced that Theodore Wafer will be arraigned this afternoon on the charges of second-degree murder, manslaughter, and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.
You can read my first post about Renisha HERE. Renisha had knocked on Wafer’s door in the middle of the night looking for help after she had crashed her car, when she was shot and killed by him while standing on his doorstep.
Wafer has told police that he thought someone was breaking into his home and that he accidentally fired his shotgun.
Prosecutor Worthy said that there were no signs of forced entry and that Renisha had been shot through a closed and locked screen door.
Whether you agree with the charges or not, I think charging him was the right call. A young girl lost her life, and now it’s up to a jury to decide what the consequences are.
Wafer will most likely be arraigned on the charges this afternoon.
