Kalamazoo County Sheriff Richard Fuller confirmed in a press conference this morning that a body found in Saint Charles Lake last week by a fisherman is that of missing medical student Teleka Patrick. You can read my prior posts about Teleka’s disappearance HERE.
An autopsy was conducted yesterday, and initial findings are consistent with that of an accidental drowning. There were no signs of trauma or foul play. The body was found with car keys, $100 cash, and a pager.
Searches were previously conducted in the lake, but ice had prevented authorities from a more thorough search.
Sheriff Fuller said it’s possible Teleka was trying to leave the area after her car went off the road and stumbled into the lake. He said the lake is kind of hidden, and if you’re walking at night, you might not see the drop-off.
Teleka’s family has been notified, and per Sheriff Fuller, the investigation into Teleka’s death will be closed.
UPDATE: 4/16/14 7:26 AM
Preliminary autopsy results in, and according to the Porter County coroner, the cause of Teleka’s death was drowning.
There were no bruises or wounds on her body to suggest any sort of foul play.
A full autopsy report is expected later this month.
