Amanda Hayes

Even though Amanda Hayes was only sentenced to 16 years in prison for her role in the death of her husband’s ex-girlfriend, Laura Ackerson, she may soon be sentenced to more jail time. Amanda was found guilty in February 2014 of second-degree murder, which you can read more about HERE.

Prosecutors announced today that a grand jury in Texas has returned an indictment against Amanda for a second-degree felony charge of tampering with physical evidence/human corpse. Prosecutors say Amanda and her husband, Grant Hayes, killed Laura in July 2011, dismembered her body, and then dumped her remains in a creek near the home of Amanda’s sister.

Amanda will be transported to Texas to face the new charge. She faces an additional 2 – 20 years in prison if she’s convicted.

Prosecutors say they didn’t charge Grant for that offense, since he is already serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.
