Just as the Skylar Neese case is closing, with the 16-year-old’s two best friends pleading guilty to her murder, another teen murder has taken place, this time in Wylie, Texas.
Two 16-year-olds have been charged with murder in the death of their 17-year-old classmate, Ivan Mejia. The suspects’ names have not been released because they are juveniles.
They were apprehended when they were caught trying to dispose of Ivan’s body. From KULR8.com:
A 911 call Saturday about a car veering off a highway led police to a wooded area in Garland, south of Wylie, where authorities say they spotted the teens. Police said that when the two were interrogated, the boys said they were trying to get rid of Mejia’s body.
Police say Mejia had been killed on a road behind the Wylie school.
In court Monday, authorities said the teens choked Ivan to death, and that Ivan and one of the teens were allegedly involved with the same girl.
Wylie Police Sergeant Donna Valdepena told reporters that they have evidence that the murder was pre-planned.
Ivan’s family released a statement expressing forgiveness towards the suspects and said they want Ivan to be remembered not as a victim of a brutal crime, but for his service to others and his passion for Christ.
Oddly enough, this isn’t the first time that this school has seen teen-on-teen murder. CBS News is reporting that two years ago, another murder occurred in the same community:
Mejia’s death comes two years after Wylie East student Nahum Martinez, 15, was fatally shot and left near a storm drain. A 15-year-old teen involved in trying to hide Martinez’s body was given 15 years in prison last year.
Ivan’s accused murderers are being kept in detention for the time being.
