It looks like San Diego Police may have gotten the right man this time. A suspect is in custody today and is being questioned in the recent attacks on the homeless, after another homeless man was attacked just this morning.

A 55-year-old homeless man was sleeping near an overpass at 19th and C Street shortly after 4:30 AM, when he was attacked, according to San Diego police. You can read my prior post about the homeless attacks HERE.

From The LA Times:

Two Harbor Police officers who were headed toward their station were passing through Golden Hill and heard a man screaming, Nisleit said. They found a homeless man under the freeway overpass, bleeding from a severe chest wound. San Diego police were notified.

They quickly assessed that the attack fit the same pattern as the other killings, in which men sleeping alone suffered major upper body chest wounds. Police have not disclosed what type of weapon has been used, and Nisleit did not say whether a weapon was found near the latest victim.

The suspect was taken into custody at Laurel and Brant Street in Bankers Hill and is currently being questioned. He was reportedly riding a bicycle and carrying a backpack with a hammer inside.

Note that the man in the above photos looks to be wearing the same green hat and black gloves as the convenience store surveillance stills.

He also matches the sketch the police put out yesterday.

San Diego Police Capt. David Nisleit told reporters today that there’s “no doubt” in his mind that this morning’s attack is connected to the attacks earlier this month, where three homeless men were killed.

The man who was attacked this morning is currently at the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Last week, police detained a man thought to be a suspect in the case, but then later released him.

A press conference is expected later this afternoon.

UPDATE: 7/16/16 9:40 AM CST

The suspect is 39-year-old Jon David Guerrero. He reportedly grew up in Coronado and was currently living in an apartment in downtown San Diego.

So why in the world was he preying on the homeless?

At a press conference yesterday, police said they found evidence at Guerrero’s apartment that “definitively and uniquely” links him to the recent murders and brutal attacks.

Guerrero has three Facebook pages, and one of them includes ramblings that don’t make any sense, at least not to me, anyway. The Facebook pages make it seem as though he may have a mental illness.

You can check out the Facebook pages yourselves in the links below.
